Amparo proceedings
The constitutional remedy, across every area we practise.
What this area covers
Amparo is Mexico's constitutional review mechanism: it protects people against acts of authority that violate their human rights. It is a distinctly Mexican instrument, with more than a century and a half of development, and it operates across any area — criminal, civil, commercial, employment or administrative — when the ordinary route no longer reaches.
What clients usually need
Those who reach amparo usually arrive tired: they have already lost by the ordinary route, or an authority decided without hearing them. What they need is a frank assessment of whether there is a constitutional question or only disagreement with the outcome, and whether the deadlines are still open. In amparo the period runs from when the act becomes known, and it expires quickly.
