What this area covers

Mexico's adversarial criminal system runs through public, oral hearings before a judge who has not read the file in advance. Since 2016 criminal liability also reaches legal persons, not only whoever physically acts: a company can be charged for acts committed in its name or for its benefit.

What clients usually need

Someone charged needs defence from the first procedural step, not from the hearing: what happens in the first hours shapes much of what follows. A company needs to know whether the act reaches it, who inside it is reached, and what it can evidence. And victims need to know they have representation too: the system grants them that right and often nobody explains it.
